They say that you are what you focus on, and I can definitely understand what they mean.
Spend 30 seconds watching commercials on TV and then spend 30 seconds relaxing with eyes closed. The two worlds are probably pretty different.
So it can be empowering to know that we have the ability to choose where to direct our attention. We can choose to highlight what’s pleasant, or interesting, or positive, or meaningful.
There are other times when the thought of choice can be less welcome. Maybe it feels like too much effort, or pressure. How do I choose???
In those times, it’s wonderful to have an option like Auto Focus. In that technique, we drop the intent to focus our attention, and allow Nature, circumstances, what have you to focus for us—no effort necessary and no choice required.
This technique can lead to the reward of effortless focus, where we don’t need to point or hold our attention here or there to have a sense of being concentrated, clear, and at peace.
